What We Do...
We provide stable and affordable housing for low-income adults pursuing self-sufficiency by matching them with homeowners who rent out extra space in their homes.
In the details...
Monica was living paycheck to paycheck and wanted a change in her life. She enrolled in school at Emily Griffith Technical college to get a certificate degree in Water Quality Management. She was juggling a lot, taking care of her kids, working part-time and going to school full-time. It was manageable when she had a stable and affordable place to live, but Monica was evicted lost her and didn’t have a place to go. She tried getting into affordable housing but due to long waitlists and skyrocketing rents, she couldn’t find anything in her price range. She reached out to Providence HomeShare to see if we could match her to a stable yet affordable home, and we did! She was able to be matched with a retired couple in Aurora who had a basement apartment that was going unused. Now, Monica has the stable and affordable foundation to plant seeds of change for her own life and set a new trajectory for her kids as well. Simultaneously, the retired couple has been able to develop a new friendship with Monica and her kids and earn extra income for themselves.
