What We Do...
Metro Caring works with our community to meet people’s immediate need for nutritious food while building a movement to address the root causes of hunger.
In the details...
I am Puerto Rican, and I have been living in the States for 13 years. My wife, Karin, and I met in Ohio and then moved to Denver together. We started out as gardeners and volunteers at Metro Caring, and during the process we have fallen in love with Metro Caring’s community. The bee project was kind of a serendipitous thing. We never set out to become beekeepers, but in our desire to become self-sustainable and understand gardening and eco-systems, it fell into our laps and we decided to throw ourselves into it. Food is a very important part of our relationship, so beekeeping was just a logical step to move forward as soon as the opportunity showed itself. In the past, we have fed ourselves with the help of Metro's market. Now we feed ourselves through the garden plots they provided and because they never asked for anything in return, we chose to give our knowledge and time to help others by running the beehive and the fermentation club.
