Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence
What We Do...
Inspiring Colorado to enhance responses to domestic violence, increase victim’s safety, and create intolerance for abuse, through visionary advocacy, supporting members, and informing the public.
In the details...
As a leader in the anti-violence movement, we are reducing domestic violence and saving lives in Colorado through our statewide, systemic advocacy, education and prevention efforts and as a resource for policymakers, the media, and the public. After seeking input from victims of domestic violence, advocates working in non-profit domestic violence organizations and criminal justice professionals, we engaged and informed the Denver Post about the need to overhaul Colorado's ineffective domestic violence habitual offender law. Within 24 hours of publication of a story on this issue, policymakers, leaders in the criminal justice system, domestic violence advocates, and members of the public reached out to us to advance a tougher approach to convicted domestic violence offenders who continue to abuse after multiple treatment opportunities. We are now working with state legislators to improve the domestic violence habitual offender law during the 2016 legislative session. We inspired Colorado to take action, ultimately enhancing the safety well-being of countless women, children and men across our state!
