In the details...
Darryl was not able to do things for himself until he met “Rio”, thanks to Canine Partners of the Rockies®. Darryl has quadriplegia and needed assistance to do simple things most of us take for granted. He couldn’t even be home alone. Darryl was 19 years old, an electrician, and in school to become a Journeyman. His spine was shattered when he was shot in the neck following a minor car accident. Darryl needed someone with him all the time in order to function. After getting his mobility service dog, Darryl was able to move into a home, ride public transportation, and work in an office because “Rio” became his hands and arms. He could finally be home alone. Darryl recently bought a van and is learning to drive again for the first time in 24 years. After 10 years “Rio” has retired and CaPR is preparing Darryl’s next canine partner for his new life.
