Arrupe Corporate Work Study Program
Primary Care Area: Children and Young Adults
What We Do...
Our program provides Denver's neediest youth an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. They learn workplace skills by experiencing work firsthand during high school.
In the details...
While sitting on a bench after work one day a freshman girl came and sat beside me. She looked exhausted. I asked her why she was so tired and she shared that this was her third day working at the Wells Fargo building downtown [through CWSP] and it was a long, hard day. She now knows why her mom is so tired all the time, she shared. She went on to explain that she always knew she would work in a building like the Wells Fargo building, that her mother has been cleaning that building at night for many years. She assumed she would do the same when she grew up. Through the Arrupe Corporate Work Study Program, she now knows that she will be working in a similar office, but during the day in a professional capacity. She is gaining the confidence and workplace skills she needs to help her succeed, fulfilling her dreams and reaching the potential her mother always knew existed to break the cycle of poverty.
